I am not asking you to organise your life around a horoscope. But I am a Libra, it is Libra season, and I would like to allow myself one small indulgence.
Serena Williams is a Libra.
Kim Kardashian is a Libra.
Monica Bellucci is a Libra.
Catherine Zeta-Jones is a Libra.
Kate Winslet is a Libra.
Gwyneth Paltrow is a Libra.
Dakota Johnson is a Libra.
Whatever you think of any of them, none of them peaked and then politely stepped aside.
The scales were never
about staying still
Libra is the sign of the scales. We are famous for balance, and also for overthinking every decision. I know, because I have lived it. For years I thought balance meant keeping everyone else comfortable.
Somewhere after thirty-five, I started to see it differently. Balance is not shrinking yourself to fit the room. It is making space for your own needs on the same scale as everyone else's.
Look at what these women
did next
Catherine Zeta-Jones stepped into the role of Morticia Addams at fifty-three. Kate Winslet took on one of her most celebrated television roles in her mid-forties. Monica Bellucci is still working, still magnetic and still entirely herself, well into her sixties. Serena won at the highest level of her sport for over two decades and then chose, on her own terms, to move towards what came next. Gwyneth built a business out of what began as a newsletter.
And then there is Kim Kardashian, who turned a very public life into a very serious business. She co-founded Skims as a shapewear brand and it grew into a company valued in the billions. Whatever you make of the headlines, she saw a gap that women were frustrated by and built the solution herself. That is shrewdness, and it is a reminder that iconic is not only about being seen. It is about owning what you build.
The common thread is not youth. It is that they kept going, and they became more deliberate about it as they went.
