Father's Day always makes me reflect on the people who shape our lives in ways we don't fully appreciate until years later. For me, that person is my husband.
We were so young when we started our life together. By the time I was 20 years old, we already had two beautiful children — our son Zen and our daughter Zauya. While many of my friends were graduating from university, starting careers, and figuring out who they wanted to become, I was learning how to be a wife and mother.
There were times when I felt like life had moved faster for me than I expected. I loved my family deeply, but I would be lying if I said I never wondered what it would have been like to follow a more traditional path.
What I didn't realise back then was that while I was busy raising our children, I was also building a life filled with love, purpose, and partnership. And none of it would have been possible without the man standing beside me.
From the very beginning, he worked tirelessly to provide for our family. He carried responsibilities that most young men his age couldn't imagine. There were bills to pay, mouths to feed, and dreams that sometimes had to be placed on hold.
Yet through it all, he remained steady.
Dependable.
Present.
He was never the loudest person in the room. He didn't need recognition or praise. He simply showed up, day after day, year after year, doing whatever needed to be done for the people he loved.
He believed in me before I believed in myself. That gift changed my life.
As our children grew, so did we. We learned together. Made mistakes together. Celebrated victories together. And through every season of life, he remained my greatest source of support.
Years later, when many people would have assumed that chapter of my life had passed, I decided to go back to school. The truth is, I wasn't entirely sure I could do it. I wondered if I was too old. I wondered if I had waited too long. I wondered if everyone else was somehow further ahead.
But my husband never doubted me. Not for a second.
When I questioned myself, he encouraged me. When I felt overwhelmed, he reassured me. When I wanted to give up, he reminded me why I started. He believed in me before I believed in myself. That gift changed my life.
Because of his support, I was able to pursue goals I had set aside years earlier. Because of his faith in me, I discovered that dreams don't have expiration dates.
Today, our children have grown into remarkable adults. Zen has built a successful career and is the kind of uncle every child deserves — loving, attentive, and always ready to make his nephew and two nieces laugh. Zauya earned her MBA while balancing work, marriage, motherhood, and countless responsibilities. Watching her achieve so much while raising a family makes me incredibly proud.
Seeing the adults they have become is one of the greatest joys of our lives.
And now we get the privilege of watching the next generation grow. Seeing my husband with our three grandchildren is one of the sweetest sights I know — the same gentle patience, the same unconditional love, the same quiet strength that helped guide our own children through life. Only now, there are a few more grey hairs and a little more wisdom.
People often celebrate life's biggest milestones — graduations, weddings, promotions, achievements. But behind so many of those moments is someone who stood quietly in the background, offering encouragement, stability, and unwavering support.
For me, that person has always been my husband.
The young father who grew up alongside our children. The man who worked hard so our family could thrive. The partner who supported my dreams when I thought they might be out of reach. The grandfather whose face lights up every time his grandchildren walk through the door.
And the person who has spent a lifetime showing me that love isn't measured by grand gestures. It's measured in consistency. In sacrifice. In showing up. Again and again.
This Father's Day, I want to say thank you. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for believing in our family. And thank you for being the kind of father, grandfather, husband, and role model who makes all of our lives better.
Happy Father's Day. We love you more than words can say.
