The lululemon Sale & Restock Guide:
How to Get What You Want Without Paying Full Price

lululemon is worth the money — but that does not mean you have to pay full price every time. Here is exactly how I shop it, including the Amex Platinum strategy that has saved me hundreds.

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. I earn a small commission if you purchase through them, at no extra cost to you. I only recommend things I genuinely wear myself. Full disclosure here.

I have been wearing lululemon to my Jetset Pilates classes for long enough to have a considered opinion on the best and worst ways to buy it. The full-price version of me — the one who sees something she loves, buys it immediately, and does not think about it until the credit card statement arrives — has funded a lot of lessons I am now passing on to you.

The smarter version shops with a system. And once you have that system, lululemon goes from feeling like an indulgence to feeling like one of the better-value decisions in your wardrobe. The Align leggings I bought two years ago are unchanged. The Swiftly Tech tops I own have been through more reformer sessions than I can count and still look like new. When you factor in cost-per-wear, the maths genuinely works — but only if you are not paying full price for everything.

"lululemon full price is a considered purchase. lululemon with a strategy is a very different conversation." — Anjie, Style & Soul 35+

How lululemon Sales Actually Work

lululemon does not do traditional seasonal sales. There is no Black Friday blowout, no end-of-season clearance rail. What they have instead is a permanent section called "We Made Too Much" — their version of an outlet page, updated regularly with discounted items in whatever sizes remain. The discounts are real, typically 30 to 50 percent off, but the selection is unpredictable and sizes go fast.

Understanding this is the foundation of shopping lululemon well. You are not waiting for a sale. You are learning the rhythm of how and when new items appear in the discounted section, and being ready when the thing you want shows up there.

When lululemon Discounts and Restocks

Key dates to know

We Made Too Much: Updated most Mondays and Thursdays. New discounted items appear without announcement — checking twice a week is the minimum if you are watching for something specific. Browse current WMTM discounts →

Black Friday: One of the few times lululemon participates in broader sale events. Discounts are modest but it is a reliable window for newer styles.

End of season — January and July: Deeper discounts as seasonal colours rotate out. Neutrals rarely appear here. Colours and limited editions do.

Restock alerts: Core styles like the Align legging restock in new colours seasonally. Enable notifications on the lululemon app — the most reliable way to catch these before they sell out.

Warehouse sales: Occasional in-person events with significant discounts. Search "lululemon warehouse sale [your city]" periodically.

Seven Strategies for Shopping lululemon Smarter

These are the approaches I use personally, in rough order of how much they have saved me over time.

Strategy 1 · Best for: Amex Platinum cardholders

Use your Amex Platinum lululemon credit strategically.

If you have an American Express Platinum card, you receive 5 back in lululemon credits every quarter — that is 00 a year. The mistake most people make is spending it the moment it lands on something small. The smarter move is to save it and apply it to a higher-ticket item — the Align leggings, the Define jacket — where 5 makes a material difference. I plan my quarterly lululemon purchase around this credit. You may want to verify current benefit terms directly with Amex as these can change.

Strategy 2 · Best for: patient shoppers

Check We Made Too Much twice a week.

Monday and Thursday are when new discounted items most commonly appear. If you are watching for a specific style, checking on these days rather than randomly gives you the best chance of catching it before your size goes. See what is discounted right now →

Strategy 3 · Best for: building a wardrobe

Buy core styles full price. Wait on colour and trend.

The Align legging in black, the Swiftly Tech in white or grey — these rarely appear in We Made Too Much because they sell consistently. Waiting for them to go on sale usually fails. Where you can afford patience is on seasonal colours, limited-edition prints, and trend-led styles.

Strategy 4 · Best for: sold-out styles

Enable restock notifications on the app.

When a style you want is out of stock, you can request a notification. Genuinely useful for the belt bag and the Align legging, both of which sell out in popular colours and restock periodically.

Strategy 5 · Best for: studio regulars

Ask about the educator discount through your teacher.

lululemon offers a significant discount to fitness instructors including pilates teachers. Worth a conversation with a teacher you have a good relationship with. I am not certain of the current exact terms, so verify directly — but it is a well-known practice in the pilates community.

Strategy 6 · Best for: fit issues

Use the in-store hemming service.

lululemon offers free hemming on leggings in-store. Buy the length that fits the waist and have it adjusted to the exact inseam you need. Getting this right the first time means the piece actually gets worn — the only way cost-per-wear works in your favour.

Strategy 7 · Best for: long-term value

Know the quality promise policy.

If something pills, fades, or loses its shape under normal use, lululemon will replace it. They have tightened the policy in recent years, so verify current terms. But keeping your receipt and being specific about what went wrong is worth doing. I have had two items replaced this way over the years.

04
Do not wait on these

The Three Things I Always Buy Full Price

Buy these when you need them — do not wait

The Align Legging in black: Waiting for it to appear in We Made Too Much in my size, in black, is not a realistic strategy. I buy it when I need it.

The Everywhere Belt Bag in any neutral: Sells out within days of restocking. If you see your colour in stock, buy it. The wait for a discount is not worth it for a 8 item.

Grip socks: Low enough price point that waiting for a sale makes no meaningful difference. Buy them when you need them.

"Check We Made Too Much on Mondays and Thursdays, use your Amex credit on something worth using it on, buy black basics full price, and wait on colour. That is genuinely most of the strategy right there."

Align High-Rise Legging 28"
✓ Does not go on sale in black✓ Lasts 2+ years

The anchor piece. Buy black first, build from there. Does not go on sale reliably in core sizes — do not wait on it. This is also the ideal piece on which to use your Amex Platinum quarterly credit.

Apply Amex credit here

"At 8, this is exactly the kind of purchase where 5 in Amex credit makes a real difference. Time it."

Swiftly Tech Long-Sleeve 2.0
✓ Wait for seasonal colour✓ Buy neutrals full price

Buy neutrals when you need them. Worth watching We Made Too Much for seasonal colours — they appear here more reliably than leggings do. The hip-length body is the detail that makes this top work after 40.

Honest take

"The body length is everything. Hits at the hip, not the waist — the only detail that matters once you are over 40."
